Tutorial for Mom

I am teaching this cute treat bag at Crafty Women tomorrow but I haven't done a tutorial in such a long time that I thought I'd show it here. I am not the originator or this idea and I have seen it on several blogs in several different ways but I am sharing my version of it.

Hey mom - I wanted to do this tutorial for you and the girlies for one of your crafting sessions and in time for Easter too. Actually they would be cute for most things especially if you were going to tuck a couple pairs of baby socks or bibs inside for a new baby so don't just think of them as bags for edible gift giving. Here goes:

You will need the following:
Base cardstock, patterned paper, scrap of co-ordinating plain paper, adhesive tape and length of ribbon/s.

Begin by cutting base cardstock to 4.5" x 4.5" and scoring along all 4 sides at 1".

I have used a red pen to indicate how the score lines should look when finished.

Next make one small cut on each side just to where the score lines meet as shown in the photo above. This creates 4 tabs to tuck in to assemble the base box.

Begin securing each tab in turn to each side (above) to form a box base as shown below.

This is the base on which the entire project will hinge so it needs to stand flat but it will be mostly hidden so don't worry if the inner edges are not entirely even.
Next cut patterned paper to measure 5.5" x 11".

Add adhesive strips along one longer edge (I used 2 strips since my tape was thinner), and peel back a small amount.

Starting at the half way point on one side stick to the base lining up lower edges as you go.
Continue until half way and then add a length of adhesive to the short edge. Continue until edges meet and then peel away adhesive backing on short side to secure in place.

Once the base and the 'bag top' are secured together gently pinch it on either side where it naturally lays taking care not to crease it and mark the centre point as shown.
Using the co-ordinating scrap, fold a piece of cardstock and punch using a larger circle punch taking care to keep the 'fold' edge in tact.

Add adhesive and secure over pencil mark encasing one edge of bag. Repeat for the other side.

Punch a hole in each circle using a single hole punch.

Cut a length from the co-ordinating scrap with scalloped scissors and add any details as desired.
Secure this strip at the lower edge starting and finishing as for patterned paper and matching straight edges at the base so that the scallops are upper most.
Add ribbon to tie closed and a tag to complete.

Hi, Just a note to let you know I made this little bag this afternoon. It was easy and didn't take that long. I'm going to check with Yvonne at church to see if she would want to use it for our Women's Retreat. Love, Mom

Hi, Yvonne thought the bag was so cute. We are going to use it for Women's Retreat. I'll be making about 40 of them. I'll get the girls to help me on Sunday. We can just make an assembly line!!! Don't need them till the 1st of May so have plenty of time. Love, Mom
