Project Tuesday View Master

Despite still being a little poorly (got a bad cough & cold this past week) I took a break from the busy-ness of this weekend and finally made my PT project.  This week it is certainly an interesting one - a 'view master' style card - remember those?  You can find instructions here and here's my effort this week.

I intended to make this for my eldest grandson's b'day but as it's looking quite youngish I now think I might have to hang on to it for my younger one's b'day next August!  He's just had this years - typical huh?

I doubt I would've tried this technique unless it was a challenge project but I'm very glad I did.  Kaleb will have fun with this and he'll be surprised when he finds out Grandma DID make it!

I clearly didn't need to cut out the space for his fingers to grab the inner disk as I added a ribbon tag but I did it anyway.  Wasn't thinkin straight - sorry.

I only created a couple of texts for my window as I went against the grain and used an oval punch instead of the circle one.  I would suggest you use a circle punch as the oval takes a bit more thinkin through - clearly I didn't do that - DER!  I am amazed I managed to get it to work at all as I didn't follow the directions one bit LOL!  I am still poorly - leave me be.

Even so I still managed to find time to decorate up the insides real quick and i might just decorate up the back for himn as well just for added fun.

Since Kaleb's b'day is in summer I might try to suggest mummy does another party in the park so we can have a baseball theme - my card will be extra perfect then huh!

Computer Generated Text

This week I created a tutorial over on Lasting Memories showing how to create computer generated text for your scrap booking layouts.  Since I ran on and on I promised to share a few pages here on my blog that feature a few more ideas so here goes.

For this first page I decided to trim a 12 x 12 piece of card stock to fit my printer - it can be 12" long but just not 12" wide - I don't have a 12 x 12 printer.  I typed my name aligned to the left on a page in horizontal orientation.  Then I stamped pretty flowers in black ink in the empty space at the right side and added colour using pens.  After layering up my title border strip I also added a few extra words that I thought described Maddycakes to a tee.

In this next page I used my computer to create the journaling block, the large title letters and even the coloured names.  For the large letters and numbers I simply enlarged my font once I had typed what I wanted.  Then I printed on patterned paper.  Next I added a straight pen border roughly around each one making sure to emphasize the differing sizes & heights and then went back with a 'quirky' pen border just inside the first one.  Finally I cut around each letter leaving a bit of additional border and my accent letters and numbers were finished.  For the names I simply used an interesting font that I downloaded and changed the colour of each.  If you are unsure which ones you can trust try http://www.dafont.com/ for absolutely tons of free fonts.

The journaling block is pretty basic and was created in a table format as explained in my tutorial but I left enough room in the left margin so I could add coloured snaps.  I wanted the 'polka dot' theme to run throughout my layout and for me this just finished it off nicely.

This last page features more clever use of text by creating a circle shape.  I repeated a simple phrase 'the TRUE cost of beauty..... the TRUE cost' etc.  I did this so I could place my circle anyway I wanted and you could still read the text.  I printed it on white so it would blend in with my background page - I don't have a 12 x 12 printer remember so you have think smarter to make up for it. 

I added lots of die-cut scalloped and plain circles inside and outside my text circle and finally added alphabet stickers across the centre to finish off the phrase.  The journaling was created in a tall thin table and I left enough space top and bottom to overlap the free stickers we got from the store.  Maddy got stickers but Grandma asked for extra to use on this page.

It's been kinda nice re-visiting these pages.  I've done quite a few over the years but I don't get them out to look at very often and maybe I should.  Next time the grandkids come I think they'd enjoy seeing some of these.  Would be interesting to see if Maddycakes remembers getting her ears pierced!

Lasting Memories Sentimental Journey

This week our challenge at Lasting memories was to create a page with a 'sentimental journey' theme and also to use computer text on our page.  I decided to create another page for my hubby's album.  I have kept all these pages fairly basic because it's more about the photos than it is the decorative element so this one had to be in keeping with the rest.

I just love looking at old photos don't you?  It was a real joy taking a 'sentimental journey' this week.  I love how everyone dressed back then, the cars - just everything - so nostalgic - so retro!  I just love retro and I love that it's makin a revival.

I decided to use my computer to create the strips of text that tell something about each photo.  I used a really nice 'old style' typewriter font and I numbered my text and photos to make it easier to follow.  These are the kind of memories that are important to document and I want things to be clear for future generations who might look at them.

And finally I added a nice sentiment that I found online but I decided to keep it small.  I wanted it to add to my page but didn't want it to take anything away from the photos.  If I had made it larger it might've been the first thing you noticed and I wanted the photos to be the first thing that draw the viewers eye.

I will be doing a tutorial this week on using your computer on layouts and have lots of different samples to share so you might want to check back for that one.
